When I was working on the new version of Abduzeedo, the current one, I decided to learn and use CSS 3 to enhance the visual of some elements. Instad of using images to create shadows and round corners I used CSS 3. Of course I knew that it would not be compatible to all browsers, more precisely, the Internet Explorer.

I started Zee back in 2004 with a friend of mine, Fabiano Meneghetti. Throughout these years we have learned a lot, from our successes and of course from the failures. It's part of the game right, even though we try to succeed more than fail.

We have already published tutorials on how to create a really cool light effect in Photoshop and GIMP, now In this tutorial, I will show you how to create this super, simple light effect inspired by a design that I saw recently in a Sony advert.

Step 1

Open Pixelmator and create a new document.

I've been writing tutorials inspired by skateboard deck designs for a few weeks and today it's not going to be different. I'm very addicted to that, I love the ideas some of the designers have and for this tutorial I will recreate a really nice effect with lines forming a star. However I will go a little bit further and I will transform it in a light effect and add a nice pattern overlay.

Last weekend I was, once again, stuck waiting more than 4 hours in aiports. So I was checking out some skateboard deck designs and found an amazing one from Girl Skateboards. The cool thing about that design was the effect, reminded me of those old signs that were painted on the walls, in old factories and industries.

In this tutorial, I will show you how to create a “human torch” effect. I created this effect a few months ago in Photoshop for a tutorial for Digital Arts Magazine, and I have decided to try it in Pixelmator.
